Janice and I just returned from checking the route.  Many of the roads north of Hawk Mountain are covered with packed snow, so I'm omitting that portion of the route.

The remaining roads are mostly good, with some snowy areas but generally not covering the full width of the pavement.  By keeping to the center of these roads, most, but not all, of the snow can be avoided, and keeping to the center is easy due to very little oncoming traffic.  A few spots have snow blowing fully across the road, but those areas are not long and a bit of caution should avoid problems.

Also, there are a lot of cinders on most of the roads.

So, the conditions are not ideal, but still "doable", for those who don't mind a little mess on some of the roads.

We will do the drive.  I have shortened it by about 17 miles, so we will start at 11:00 a.m., rather than at 10:15.  The drivers' meeting will be at 10:45.

The lunch plan has not changed.

Glad to see the Polar Bear is a go this year. Tom and Bergy are going to be a no-go.

See you in the spring!

Will be bringing RAV4 instead.  Gotta keep the baby free from cinder nicks, road salt.  I wimped out but attending.

I agree, Tony.  But, as the ride leader, I'd better show up in a Miata, right? Eh

It will be a straight shot to the car wash after the drive for us!

Sorry folks, but I, too, have decided to back out and wait for better roads.  Dave, thanks for putting the ride together and for your courageous spirit - and a Happy and Safe New Year to all!
