Miata time - By Brent Rymon

Looking under the hood and checking vital fluids, nodding knowingly at the wires, hoses, and stuff. Knowing that for having looked a successful ride is assured.

Miata time.

Getting in touch with your car's beauty, washmitt on hand, soap and rinse buckets strategically placed. Laminar rinse flow. Racing the air to be the first to dry water drops.

Flipping the latches, making sure your top folds just so as it retracts. Sun filling the interior, warming dash, seats, and roll bar.

It's Miata time.

Miata time is twisting the key, hearing the valves go quiet a moment later, feeling the inert become alive, hearing readiness in the first blip of throttle.

Miata time is snicking up through the gears between lights on the way to your favorite road. Just a warm up, just a taste, a tease.

Tap the throttle. Down shift for the turn. Back up through the gears, smiling at the sound, the response.

Miata time.

Miata time is not turning too early, heading for the apex, lateral gees, drifting out under power.

Miata time is fresh mowed lawn, a hard wood fire, multi-flora roses, hamburgers, curing hay, rain up ahead, leaves thick and wet, air cool then warm again.

Stretch to see over the nose at the top a rise and find it’s time to turn, time to be off camber, and time to be light on your feet, all at the same time; that's Miata time.

Miata time is in your hands, felt through the seat of your pants and the dance of your feet, it is at your command and you are responsible to it.

Road, car, self, sky. Be safe out there.
